If you don’t want to use the app…then you can always use the web version. Apple Maps: These are the Proprietary Maps developed by Apple and are available only for the IOS devices. Nokia Drive: Available for Windows phone 7 and 8. Also there are others available like Nokia Maps(HERE) for the Symbian devices and can also be used as a web version. All who are using windows 8 might have been missing a full fledged browser for metro interface. Well google listened to you and is currently developing the Google chrome browser for windows 8. The interface of this windows store app is the same as the original chrome you have been using. You can see the screenshot below and you would that the interface is exactly the same as the desktop version.
Not only the interface but it also has all the features of the desktop version including the extension. I was using the IE metro app but seriously felt there need to be more control. And Chrome brings it here. For desktop i still prefer IE since my experience with Chrome has not been satisfactory.

September has been busy month for the Smartphone manufacturers. Apple, Nokia, Samsung and HTC all have been revealing their upcoming new smartphones. While apple brought out the iPhone 5, HTC, Nokia and Samsung revealed their Windows Phone 8. Here’s a list of upcoming WP8 this year just after the release of the windows 8 (26th October’ 2012) and windows phone 8 (29th October’ 2012).
Here’s a list of these smartphones:
Let’s see what they have in there boxes. Here i am giving you an overview of these phones.
If you are an Apple user and use your iPhone for navigation purpose then you need to be careful with the new Maps coming out in the Apple iPhone 5 (iOS6). There has been continuous criticism for the replacement of the Google maps by apple maps from all over the world. People have been loosing ways using these maps.
Within minutes of the launch of the iOS6 operating system, which comes preloaded with Apple Maps, users were reporting that London had been relocated to Ontario, Paddington station had vanished, the Sears Tower in Chicago had shrunk, and Helsinki railway station had been turned into a park.
There’s a post on CNET that shows how bad the ios maps really are. These maps show us that the 2D maps were really better than the 3D maps. Thanks to these maps that people are getting lost in there towns. I have used Google maps and Nokia Ovi maps and both of these seems to be great choice for me. I like the offline mode of the Nokia maps and also the fluidity of the google maps in displaying live information.
The traditional start menu in Windows 8 has been replaced by Metro-UI and the start button has also been removed from taskbar. But, you can get the Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 style start menu easily by using a utility. You can also get the Windows 8 logo on the start button orb easily.
Although, there are many third party software available to bring the start menu back but, they don’t insert the start button on the right place and you have to use some difficult tricks to get the button positioned on right place. But, this utility, ClassicShell brings the start menu back and you can also customize the look of menu as well as start button orb.
ClassicShell has the following features:
- Get any of XP, Vista or Windows 7 Style Start Menu.
- There are many more start menus available.
- You can also customize the start button with different styles.
- Windows 8 logo can also be used as start button.
- Special cut, copy and paste option can be enabled in Windows Explorer as well as Internet Explorer.
- The Metro-UI is still accessible with special keystroke e.g. ‘Shift + left click’ on button etc.
- The Metro-UI thumbnail is disabled after installing the start menu.
- Many more options like search option in start menu can be used by right clicking the start button and selecting ‘Settings’.
How to get Special Windows 8 logo as Start Menu button
ClassicShell have three different start menu buttons but, the Windows 8 logo is not available to set as the start button. You can always set custom icons as start button and in the same way we will set the Windows 8 logo as start button.
